:wilson_enraged:I've had this happen to me about four or five times now. Where someone will join play for a day or so, then burn my camp down. They will take all supply's from the chests and then burn everything. Why does this keep happening! I'm sick of this happening to me and it completely ruins my game experience. The point is to play together and work together not come into a game act like you care then burn everything down. I feel bad for always having to ban people, but this is absolutely ridiculous!! I am absolutely shocked that people are that rude! Has this been happening to you or is it just me ?? :mad-new: :mad-new: :mad-new: :mad-new: :mad-new: :mad-new: :mad-new: :mad-new:

Firstly, I'm sorry for your unfortunate encounters but yes this happens a lot. Secondly, welcome to the forums but sadly this is the wrong game subforum. DST General Discussions is found here.

Thirdly, I'd suggest you use Simple Protection the next time you start up a server, that might reduce the griefing encounters by a bit. It is mostly configurable and also don't forget that we have snapshots that allows us(hosts) to revert to a previous world save day. So any damage caused by a griefer can be recovered.

Lastly, if you're not hosting and just simply prefer joining other servers then the best way for you to find the right kind of players to play with is to live nomadically for a while and only encounter people while you explore. If you want to still make camps on someone else's server, try to shrink down your general camp size and camp away from the general paths and settle down on the edge of the land. And make several small decoy camps near spawn that you can visit and pretend its your main camp. That way you can judge whether you can trust a certain player to join you in your main camp.

People to watch out for, names with bizarre characters, the quiet ones that don't reply, players who hold up a hammer while hanging around at camp, etc. I'd list more but you get the gist.

Final thoughts, don't trust people too early. Good luck and hopefully you'll eventually find the right kind of people to play alongside with, Cheers.

I feel your pain, I really do.

Burned down camps is just above sanity draining via ghosts, and the latter is pretty annoying itself.

Do all the things Zillvr reccomended.

There's too many asshats to actually trust anyone. I encounter one most everyday. Just keep to yourself for a while, and if yah find a bunch of people who seem alright, build a camp with them.

If you are planning to stick around for winter and beyond, build mini bases, 3 farms, a chest, science machine, whatever. Scatter then around in important places but off the track. You'll find that once a troll has located and burned down one camp, they will get off for the most part and will try and not locate another one. Use peoples positioning to your advantage. In the long run the extra day or two it takes to get as far away from the portal as possible but with all your materials gathered is better in the long run.

General tip: People tend not to look in rocky biome, desert biome with all the hounds and such, and of course, the swamp. The longer and more dangerous, the better. Forest areas and Savannah are far too easy a target to burn unless very far away, and naturally never build a camp at spawn, no matter how much everyone else has done to it when you first get onto the server.

Carry your most important things on you at all times..... If you have the time for it, I suppose you could always boobietrap your base with a chest and killer bees, but it would be a waste in the long run since everything will go down in flames anyway.

This is why I only play on PvP servers for the most part. If anyone comes to my camp I chop their heads off, thank them for the delivery of supplies, and go back to my daily work. If I notice someone who has been on the server for say a year or more I may start talking to them if they are playing a character with skills I require or if I just don't want them as an enemy.

Either way for PvP try these 10 simple steps.

  • Step 1: Find the Desert
  • Step 2: Set up camp behind the Hound Mounds & Dragonfly Arena
  • Step 3: Kill a few hounds, use their flesh as Buzzard bait.
  • Step 4: Now that you have too much meat to carry build onto your base.
  • Step 5: Prep for winter.
  • Step 6: Make a few decoy bases just before winter.
  • Step 7: Camp by the Buzzards for winter and live on them.
  • Step 8: Make a Ham Bat farm.
  • Step 9: Kill anyone that dare come near you.
  • Step 10: Enjoy the sweet life.
  • BONUS STEP 11: Log out and come back to nothing the next day (Next time build walls)

Using these steps I'm on a personal Day 300+ on a server with the Wall Gates mod.  :joyous:

EDIT: I should mention that killing builds a reputation. Now one way or another if you are killing, people are going to notice! So you need to influence your reputation as best you can. If you're like me you've learnt that it is best to be either quiet or polite. I have seen people who go the route of antagonizing people which generally causes the other people to agree to team-up to take that person down besides most of them never having fallen victim to them! Never act cocky. It is just inviting hell straight to your doorstep, and we all know the gent never wipes his feet..

well, this is a online game and this happens from the beginning of the online gaming. First create your server with the only friends restriction or a password, at the beginning of the beta the people was very kind and friendly, but now is a bit more hard to find a server where you are not kicked in 4 seconds or with people who doesn't wants you there, if you host is easy to find people who only wants destruction, then the only solution is find some friends, with they you can enjoy a lot this game, is fun play with unknown people and make new friends but you need to bleed a little to find more people who wants to play the game in the right way

Dont be stupid with what you say in chat. I've lost track of the number of people I've found and killed because they gave me a hint about where they are in global chat... like saying they have poop. I know they are near pigs or beefalo... stuff like that.

Remember to use "u" to local chat.

Make friends and play with them.

I host open servers but I've always got someone in voice chat who tells me when I need to ban someone. It says in my server descriptions that I just ask for good behaviour... or you get sent to Spaghetti-Con. (and by that I mean I ban you)

It's not really rude, it's more like... inconvenient ;)

I've seen so many camps burn down, it's not an exaggeration to say it happens daily, because I do play daily. Sometimes just a few days into a game, another a full 20, but either way it's incredibly frustrating.

Had 13 farms up, a wall, and basic camp things.... Not fond of walls since the rocks can be used to make farms and it means jack shizzle in the scheme of things, but eh.... We just had 2 greifers on that game, and we didn't even hit day ten before I quit. Makes you wonder though, just how many jerks in this game are there?

I hope someday that at least the option to disable ghost burning goes down so people can choose to enable it if they dare so, at least. It won't stop the people with torches, but it will be one less headache.

Miss Morgan, go to console, type c_rollback()

this will load the world back to when the game last saved (it saves automatically about once every day).

If you need to go back more, try c_rollback(2) or even further, c_rollback(3)

To manually save, type c_save()  <---- do this whenever someone joins the game particularly if you are suspicious

Note: you have to be host.

ahh.. this thread explains why i get kicked and even banned so often for no reason... at first i thought they are just dicks but now i see they are actually scared..

well i havent met any griefers yet so i didnt know its such a big problem here. thats really sad to hear

I've been saying it since DST started:

Either play on private servers, or shut up about being griefed.

It sounds harsh, but there is nothing that is going to protect you on a server that is going to stop a dedicated griefer with plenty of free time.

Either accept that it happens, and move on, or play on private servers. Don't make the 1000th post on the forums complaining about the same easily solvable problem.

if I am on a dedicated public server, I play totally nomad. i build my alchemy engine to place if i need to craft something and then destroy it and rebuild it to place whenever i need again. There is some material loss during hammering process but I now know what to craft and i dont really set up the engine more than 3 times (so I mostly craft most basic items to survive)., some people may think it is boring but i can say that most challenging part of this game is the beginning, also if you settle down you get bored more easily because after some time you will have everything. With this method it is more challenging, you wont have a base to be griefed. Best gift for this nomad life is the opportunity to explore almost whole map before winter and knowing all camp locations so you can choose the most hidden and most advanced camp to join. While they are working on putting up structures you can get pig skin from pig heads, kill beefalo to get horn etc and use their structures to craft your items ...

Other people who owns base may not like a stranger to approach to their camp but if you like that camp and wanna stay there (which is far away from spawn, not easy to find, not on roads) you can help them to gain their trust to join to their camp. I only play on vanilla servers.

If I got friends with me generally they set up a camp and I join to their camp at a later stage. This is pretty much my strategy for dedic servers.

One of my camp set up by me on a vanilla public server: Mostly swamp is not really prefered as a camp loation and not many people would think somebody can place a camp there. This camp was really in a hidden part of swamp.. Not even a single person could find this camp till day 36 and after that i left the server. I mean if it was savannah they would probably find this base, but swamp is not really visited by many players and most of the players who visits the place dont really explore whole swamp...
